Peking University established in 1898 as the first national comprehensive institution of higher learning ever founded in China. PKU has always sought to be in the vanguard of progress in higher education. In 2013, the first MOOC in mainland China was launched by PKU. To date, PKU has offered more than 200 high-quality online open courses, which have gained recognition and praise from learners at home and abroad. Facing the impact of COVID-19 on education, PKU actively promotes online education. In the spring semester, 2800 faculty members offered 4437 courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels through live streaming, MOOCs and other forms to more than 40000 students who were unable to return to the campus. PKU will strongly support the construction of courses and cooperation with all members in the Global MOOC Alliance.

Professor GONG Qihuang, Executive Vice President and Provost of Peking University, is an Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and member of the World Academy of Sciences. He serves as Cheung Kong Professor of Physics, and Boya Chair Professor of PKU. He is also the dean of Graduate School of PKU. His current research interests are in ultrafast optics and nonlinear optics, mesoscopic optical devices for applications in optical information processing and communication. Prof. Gong is vice president of International Commission for Optics, president of Chinese Optical Society, and vice president of Chinese Physical Society.
Prof. Sun Hua is the Director of Center for Excellent Teaching and Learning of Peking University, and the Director of China Center for Edgar Snow Studies. Prof. Sun Hua has developed his research in Pedagogy and Cross-Culture communication. His previous experience includes the Chief Editor of Peking University TV Station for 6 years, the Student Affairs Administrator in School of Journalism and Communication of PKU for 10 years, the Deputy Director in Office of Planning and Policy Research of PKU for 2 years, the Deputy Director in Office of Education Administration of PKU for 5 years, Executive Dean of Yuanpei College of Peking University for 5 years.
On the basis of effective training of new teachers and teaching assistants, the Center for Excellent Teaching and Learning was established in 2015 to construct an overall system for improving and developing the teaching ability of faculty in PKU. The center sets up a supportive service platform for teaching environment and resources construction, exploring a mechanism that promotes teaching reform and innovations through academic research.
